Annamour: A photographic travelogue of Vietnam by Thinh Le
Through his many journeys photographing the length of Vietnam, Thinh Le has captured the essence of a restless country that is struggling to catch up with the modern world. After more than 20 years in isolation, Vietnam pushes itself into the global market with a vengeance. As a result, the Vietnamese society is changing at a dizzy speed. Coping with this fast pace is a challenge for Vietnamese nationals as well as for the Viet Kieu (Vietnamese who settle abroad). Le believes that he has caught a glimpse of a transitional era and what he captured with his camera would vanish like an illusion in tomorrow’s Vietnam. To emphasize his point, Le often took pictures from the inside of a car moving at high speed or while riding on the back of a motorcycle that raced down the streets. When not moving, Le relied on his first impression to choose his subjects, and harvested those fleeting moments that he believed he faced a sudden reality, as if he experienced an epiphany. No plans, no calculations, no anticipated compositions, but just pure artistic and emotional responses. The result is a collection of images that are more subjective, diverse, random and personal reflecting the photographer’s search for long lasting impressions during his journeys through a fast changing land known as Vietnam.

em là người mẫu tính tiền giờ
cho họa sĩ vẽ chân dung
người đàn bà Hà Nội
em bước ra khỏi tranh
xé tan đi hình ảnh thành phố xưa yên tịnh
để bây giờ
nhìn rõ hơn con đường trước mặt
trên phố phường Hà Nội
tôi mời em quên quá khứ.
